Business Students Give Thanks!

"There is always something to be thankful for"

The theme of the week is giving thanks for what we have because there is always something to be thankful for. Especially during this season of holidays and togetherness, it is important to appreciate all that we have.

Students decorated a poster outside the classroom of "hand turkeys" and wrote what they are thankful for.

Most of us are thankful for friends and family and in my opinion those relationships are the most important of all! Not one person wrote about any material possessions!

Some things to be thankful for included

"Thankful to live in the USA"

"Happiness"

"My health"

Students also decorated Thanksgiving Placemats that were donated to Inspirica in Stamford, the largest service to the homeless in lower Fairfield County. For more ways to help please go to their website: http://inspiricact.org/about-inspirica/

Members of Business Concepts Class took part in “Shark Tank Day” on November 13th where they presented their business ideas to a panel of Sharks which included teacher and entrepreneur Wendy Wade, guidance counselor Anna Murray, Marketing/DECA teacher and Department Head of the Unified Arts Department, Howard Levy, Marketing Director of Schimenti Construction, Lauren van Rensburg, and Storage Technical Solution Specialist of Microsoft, Rob Griffin. The Sharks provided feedback and insight on the business ideas, and an “offer” was made!

Students created a business idea/product to pitch their idea to a "Shark Tank" similar to the concept of the popular television show "Shark Tank". The students researched the start up costs of a business, marketing and managing plans, profit and sales revenue analysis and more!

Students of C.A.S.A.D.E with their Shark who offered them $200,000 for a 33% stake in their company!

Upon entering class, we should all be logging on to the computers and using business news websites to locate an article related to business news.

Reminder about turning in notes/assignments/classwork

Please turn in any work/notes into the bin at the end of your row

Have a great weekend!

Have a great weekend everyone!

Personal Finance week in review: This week we started discussing Work Forms and Laws to protect workers such as Child Labor Laws, Age Discrimination Act and the Equal Pay act! We even filled out a W-4 form (Form we fill out so our employer knows how much tax to take our per paycheck) and answers questions about a W-2 form (the wage and tax form)

Consumer Math students learned how to calculate overtime pay and why it is so important when analyzing our paychecks!

Career Pathways students evaluated their interests and skills and how it is important to identify them when choosing a career!

Business Concepts and Careers students faced economic scarcity when there was a limited amount of popcorn for the class and unlimited wants!

I also ran 3.2 miles in 33 minutes during the week so I am getting closer to my goal of 30 minutes! I also went to the SHS football game and saw some students play and cheer!

Enjoy your weekend!

Career Pathways Notes

Hey all!

Just wanted to share a couple of links to videos on skills! Remember skills are things you know how to do or things you are good at! What are some of your skills?

Interests are things you like! Please check the link for more information on how interests can help you find the right career for you!

It is important to evaluate our skills and interests so we can make good choices about the what kind of careers we will have in the future!

For example I am interested in education, and community and I am good at multitasking and organization. These interests and skills match my career as a teacher! Try to think of your interests and skills and how they may shape your career path!

First Day of School

What a great first day!!!

Today was such a fun day for me! I was introduced to my classes and we participated in a communication skill building game as well as played "Random Questions." I learned that my students would rather go a year without TV over a year of junk food, and that most of my students will cut people in line!

Remember NO CELL PHONES!

So excited for tomorrow!!
